Kanon Havens is a performing arts connoisseur. Filmmaking has always been one of her many ambitions, along with traveling the world and mastering Thom Yorke’s dance moves (a work in progress…). A product of two cultures, she developed her love for dance, music and theatre during her childhood years growing up in Japan. She enjoys philosophizing, people watching and meowing at cats.

Vance Malone has an eye for filmmaking. The Wyoming native began his career location scouting and casting. Malone’s ability to bring out natural performances from non-actors swiftly translated into well-received “real people” spots for Adidas, Nike and Goodwill. Using interesting faces, places and compositions, his signature performance-based visual storytelling emerged.

Malone’s personable style and attention to detail continue to create a lasting impression on clients and agencies in addition to earning critical acclaim. Vance has enjoyed numerous awards for his commercials and short films such as Clio for MTV’s Choose or Lose “Permission”. And his work for Subaru landed both the automaker and DDB NY a Green Award for Excellence in Communication.

As an accomplished documentarian, Vance’s films unify the polished aesthetic of his commercial work and the raw energy of the real people he documents, bring their stories to life with direction and composition that illuminates the beauty of the everyday. The Poodle Trainer, Malone’s latest film, premiered at Sundance this January. His previous work includes Ocularist, the portrait of a doctor who sculpts prosthetic eyeballs, which received an honorable mention at Sundance in 2003 and critical acclaim across the festival circuit including a Best Cinematography nod and a nomination from the International Documentary Association, and Losing Lusk, a study on the dissolution of Main Street America, which premiered at Sundance in 2006.
